Bodybuilding refers to the art of building your muscles by working out and performing different types of exercises. There are a whole bunch of exercises categorized in different sections and they help to build muscle in a particular part of the body like the abs, the arms and the legs. Bodybuilding also requires paying attention towards a special diet that you will have to follow every day. Following a special diet will help you to put on more muscle mass.

Many people do bodybuilding for different purposes. Some people may do it just for recreation while some people may do it for serious competition. Some people also do bodybuilding for personal betterment. There are a lot of bodybuilding competitions taking place in different parts of the world at local, national and international levels. The judges put a lot of emphasis on the physical appearance of the participants as well as their posture.

There have been many recent attempts in the past to make bodybuilding a part of the Olympics but this idea has not yet been approved as many people feel that bodybuilding is not an athletic sport. However bodybuilding has successfully won the hearts of people all over the world. When you think of bodybuilding, the first thing that comes to the mind are Hollywood actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Both these personalities earned a lot of name in Hollywood because of their bodies.

In case of a bodybuilding competition, the participants show various poses to the judges that are intended to accentuate certain muscle groups. It is often said that many participants spend a lot of hours in getting the poses right. Bodybuilding does not come under the preview of athletic sports. The whole focus of bodybuilding is to build muscle mass. As mentioned before, there are several techniques and methods of bodybuilding. Many bodybuilders take steroids to gain muscle mass quickly, but they don't understand the risks of the side effects of these steroids.

The serious bodybuilder will try to acquire as much muscle mass as possible by working out regularly for a long period of time, and he will increase the intensity and the time of his exercise gradually. Once the competition, comes near, the bodybuilder will focus on sculpting the existing muscle mass in his body. In the beginning the bodybuilder will start with light weights and then increase the weights as days pass by.
